Stephen Vanderhorst

National Environment & Sustainability Manager, LifeLabs

LifeLabs has an ever growing Environment and Sustainability team that works on anything from environmental metric tracking to waste, electricity, and water reduction programs, to employee engagement initiatives, to target setting.

In 2024, our team of 4 has indirectly grown again - we officially launched our “Sustainability Squad,” which has nominated and taken 15 of our bright leaders representing various departments and brought them together to meet monthly and collaborate on new initiatives.

As a leader, my biggest priority is driving my Sustainability team to be creative and push for positive change. It’s important to note that a great deal of sustainability-led projects have numerous other benefits as well, so being able to loop in other departments and make economic, efficiency, and health and safety benefits apparent in our pilot projects and business cases is key. I have been working at LifeLabs for 2 years in this capacity, but have over 10 years of work experience in the environmental industry pushing sustainable initiatives in the consulting industry, for the government, in oil, gas and other resource-based industries.
