Tahnee Smerchynski

Director, Human Resources - General Bank of Canada

Tahnee Smerchynski is a passionate HR professional dedicated to the employee experience and diversity, equity, and inclusion. She pursued HR after falling in love with coaching employees as a manager. Tahnee progressed in various industries, such as mining and government, before landing in financial services. After ten years of professional experience, she added Business Administration education to her resume and obtained her Certified Professional HR designation.

 

Born in Edmonton but raised in Regina, Tahnee recently came home to Edmonton when she joined the General Bank of Canada in 2022 as the first HR Director and a member of the senior leadership team. She is building out the HR function at the bank and focusing on making a positive impact and enhancing the employee experience.

 

It’s no surprise that Tahnee ended up in HR as she naturally connects with others and is looking to make the workplace a better environment. When she’s not challenging the status quo, she is busy exploring Edmonton, staying active, and trying different restaurants. She is planning to marry her partner Jory this upcoming summer and is on the hunt for her new fur baby.
